A new report from the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, Target Locked: The Unrelenting Israeli Smear Campaigns to Discredit Human Rights Groups in Israel, Palestine, and the Syrian Golan, offers an in-depth look into some of the groups and tactics involved in an ongoing campaign to delegitimize NGOs working in the Syrian Golan, Israel, and Palestine.
The report details the political and legal contexts of this campaign; the specific tactics employed including public smear campaigns, legislative and administrative attacks on NGOs, and efforts to defund NGOs; efforts to push back against this campaign; and 32 recommendations for governments, donors, and international bodies to protect and enable the critical work NGOs are doing in these spaces.
