On April 13 the Global Center on Cooperative Security held a public event to highlight conclusions of its March 2022 report A Blueprint for Civil Society-Led Engagement in UN Counterterrorism and P/CVE Efforts.
The report provides a number of recommendations for the United Nations, its Member States and the civil society ecosystem that would enhance the transparency and effectiveness of engagement so that it can be authentic and meaningful. The fact that such a report was needed is an indication that, although the UN professes to value civil society input, the mechanisms for gathering such input are in need of much improvement. However, the report also points out that each of these stakeholder groups has a responsibility to take steps to improve the status quo.
