The Charity & Security Network (C&SN), an international coalition of hundreds of civil society organizations, works to safeguard the work of humanitarian, peacebuilding and human rights organizations by promoting an enabling legal environment. We congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their historic election victory.

We are encouraged by the historical levels of turnout in this year’s election, and the truly diverse set of organizations and movements that worked to encourage such civic engagement.

C&SN looks forward to working with the Biden/Harris Administration as it pursues its pledge to “Revitalize our national commitment to advancing human rights and democracy around the world” as it states in the campaign’s platform. Such a commitment must ensure that legitimate humanitarian and peacebuilding programs are not curtailed due to vague and ill-designed laws and regulations produced more than twenty years ago and in a different international landscape.

We will also work with the 117th Congress, as it strives to improve conditions for the millions of people around the world who are facing dire humanitarian situations and conflict. To this end, we are eager to engage with the proposed Congressional Commission on Counterterrorism Policy to ensure that the current laws and policies that prevent civil society from performing its essential work will be remedied.

C&SN stands ready to contribute whenever and wherever we can to support and advance these goals.
